As COP27 unfolded in Sharm El Sheik this month, we reflected on unprecedented sustainability successes at IMEX America in October, including a leap in exhibitors taking our People & Planet Pledge, prepared to release our first sustainability report for IMEX in Frankfurt, and applauded the extraordinary ingenuity of the 2022 Earthshot finalists.
Our key takeaway? As we strive for a better future, none of this should be extraordinary. We must strive to make it ordinary.

WHAT WE'RE DOING
Breaking free
Challenged to create an immersive experience that would empower us all to throw off conventional constraints and bring back post-pandemic events differently, Encore’s event strategists went all out at IMEX America last month. Inspired by our sustainability strategy, Break Free encouraged those of us lucky enough to experience it to think differently, to share ideas, to create truly transformative events.
Prior to the Earthshot prize awards in Boston next week, Earthshot’s storytelling partners Springwise walk us through the extraordinary innovations of the 2022 finalists, from passageways for orangutans, to seaweed stones and bubble curtains. The scale of the challenge we face may seem overwhelming, but if we all embrace ingenuity, a better future is possible.
How is sustainability changing the way you do business?
That was the big question posed to participants at both IMEX America 2022 and Routes World 2022. A few years ago, the question might have been, “Is sustainability changing the way you do business?” It’s striking just how out of date that seems now. From small to significant steps, innovation in sustainability is widespread and accelerating.
Ahead of the release of the first detailed sustainability report for IMEX in Frankfurt, produced in partnership with our sustainability consultants MeetGreen, our CEO Carina Bauer shares her perspective and our commitment, “Sustainable events that deliver a safe and inclusive environment for collaboration, education and partnerships to flourish, will be part of the solution to the big challenges our global community faces today.”
